Putting the “Saint” in St. Louis

Since it’s Easter weekend, I thought I’d share a quirky little thing I found when prowling around one of my favorite neighborhoods in St. Louis. You have to understand, there’s a lot of religion in The ‘Lou, particularly Catholic. It seems like there’s a huge, gorgeous church on every other corner. People have devotionals and grottos in their gardens and yards. Catholic schools are everywhere. If you want to sell your house, everyone knows you must bury your St. Joseph statue upside down in your front yard. But, for all that everyone is loud and proud with their religious affiliations here, this still struck me as both funny and very much “St. Louis.”

Statue of the Virgin Mary high up on a roof in Souland, St. Louis MO

Yup, that’s a statue of the Virgin Mary, nestled high up on the roof of the old buildings! She’s probably three stories up, watching down over the streets.

More pictures after the jump…

Old Cemetery Cross

During a recent day trip down to historic St. Genevieve, The Hubs and I came across a beautiful old cemetery with graves dating back to the Civil War. This monument was a centerpiece.

Old Cemetery Cross

This cross is an unusual mixture of materials. (After the jump, check out the detail pic!)

A Cat-Like Curiosity: A Wonderful Story That Will Make You Smile

Hi, guys! I wanted to share this story I ran across last night, while joining up on some blog hops. I stopped by Sarah's terrific blog, A Catlike Curiosity, to join her hop, but I got totally sidetracked by the wicked cool photo and the story of the little woman in it. (She has another one on her page, but this was my favorite from her original source link.)

It’s My Birthday and My Warts-And-All To-Dream List for My New Year!

So, today, I am another year older, which really doesn’t bother me much. If you ask me, I’ll tell you flat-out how old I am (45) and we can marvel together that I’ve lasted this long. Take that, March of Time! LOL

Starting the Master Bedroom Mastery Makeover

You have heard, I'm sure, the old adage "The cobbler's children go barefoot," right? Well, unless you are talking about cherry cobbler (and why would we be talking about cherry cobbler?), the same can sometimes be said of rehabbers and decorators!

While I love making things pretty for others, my own bedroom has been a room I avoid like the plague. I hate to be in there. At night, I can't turn out the lights quickly enough. Believe me, it's not inspiring any magic that one might hope to have in a bedroom. It's just BLAH! I hate blah. I make it presentable when I have people over and they need to be able to put their purses on my bed.

So, basically, I clean the room for other people's purses and so I don't die from a coordinated dust bunny attack while I'm asleep.

My Pinterest Inspiration for Making Over My Master Bedroom

I didn't intend to do a full makeover. Really, I just meant to throw a new coat of paint on the walls...

First of all, your sanctuary should be inviting! You should want to spend time there, rest there, read there, snuggle with the spouse there, bounce on the bed with the kids there! Mine has long since lost most of its inviting qualities. Plus, it's small. Small-ish. And dove gray. Which sounded charming in theory, but is actually B-O-R-I-N-G in real life.

Starting a BIG Project

First of all, let me introduce you to Nano, my wonderful Scottish mother-in-law. She is the youngest 81-year-old you would ever want to meet! Unlike many of her contemporaries, Nano LOVES to change things up. That's her, trying out an iPod. LOL And when Nano wants to change things up, you're likely to arrive for dinner and find a paintbrush next to your dinner fork! LOL

This is Nano. This is Nano on an iPod.
This is also Nano's dull kitchen

Visions & Secrets & Wishes - OH MY!

Now, this may sound like it's going to be a lot of hoo-doo in this post, but I promise it's not! ;)

A couple years ago, there was a DVD making the rounds of my husband's office. It was The Secret and it was supposed about wishing for something out loud, which would, in turn, send that wish out to the universe, and would finally come true. That's pretty much it in a nutshell, at any rate. Anyway, the DVD finally found its way to my husband's desk and then to my DVD player. Now I like a good ghost story, conspiracy theory, etc, but I definitely prepared to view this "documentary" with a healthy dose of skepticism.

I have to say, while I still don't believe in wishes magically coming true, I got one thing out of this DVD and it's worked remarkably well - the idea of creating a Vision Board.

This is our Vision Board for 2012 - Got some empty spaces!
