Master Bedroom Makeover Update - Decorating Ideas!

Hey, gang! I'm back with another update of my progress on the Master Bedroom makeover! If you remember, last week I showed you how to use a piece of trash to make an awesome coat rack. And before that, I employed my tapeless painting skills using environmentally-friendly paint, I managed to disguise a flatscreen TV, and I even conquered the clutter in my closet.
Today, it's all about decorating - one wall! Yep, I'm nothing if not methodical! Or maybe anal...or super-picky...or maybe I'm just lazy...

Reclaimed Deck Wood Coat Rack Tutorial

Hi, everyone! If you follow me on FACEBOOK, you saw that I posted a sneak peek of today's project. I have to say, this one is so from-the-hip that I wasn't sure if it would turn out a project success or a project fail. (But, you know me - you've would have seen the report either way, warts-and-all girl that I am! LOL)

But, as it turns out, this simple tutorial is well-worth sharing, in my honest opinion! I even got unsolicited thumbs up from all the normally-disinterested men in my family! So, maybe I should have titled this post "Decide on something you don't have, hit your trash dumpsters, grab whatever you have in the garage, and hope for the best!"

What's that Vignette Trying to Hide?!

The Hubster was off this past Thursday and Friday and he decided to surprise me! You will have to either guess what he surprised me with or wait until the end of this post, but I will say this - his surprise, while totally awesome, presented me with a decorating challenge. The upside of getting hit with a new decorating challenge is, of course, having new blog post fodder, right? And, so, voila!

I Got The Itch To Add...

So, last week, I posted about my DIY Halloween Decor. I love it every year I put it up! Halloween is my favorite of the holidays, truth be told, because I'm just a lunatic for anything spooky.

Anyway, through my travels on the interwebs and the blogosphere, I have discovered several things I suddenly have decided I cannot do without. Incredibly, my decor is not enough on it's own! Who knew? LOL It's all right, though. The Hubster is used to it. I make these discoveries every year (regardless of the fact that I always claim to be "finished" with my outdoor decor).

First up, I found these awesome ideas on Better Homes and Gardens:

The Haunting of MY Hill House

Hey, friends! I'm in the best mood!! Why? Because it's October and October means HALLOWEEN! The scarier, the better!

I'm going to level with you all - we are a rather twisted family. I can promise you, we have more in common with the Addams Family than The Cleavers. If we were left to our own devices (and wouldn't draw complete ostracization from our neighbors and end up having warrants put out on us by code enforcement officers), we would probably live in a "haunted house" all year 'round. Since I can't, and since I don't have unlimited funds to spend, let me show you what we do and how we do it cheap!

Starting the Master Bedroom Mastery Makeover

You have heard, I'm sure, the old adage "The cobbler's children go barefoot," right? Well, unless you are talking about cherry cobbler (and why would we be talking about cherry cobbler?), the same can sometimes be said of rehabbers and decorators!

While I love making things pretty for others, my own bedroom has been a room I avoid like the plague. I hate to be in there. At night, I can't turn out the lights quickly enough. Believe me, it's not inspiring any magic that one might hope to have in a bedroom. It's just BLAH! I hate blah. I make it presentable when I have people over and they need to be able to put their purses on my bed.

So, basically, I clean the room for other people's purses and so I don't die from a coordinated dust bunny attack while I'm asleep.

Rhee's Shade FAIL!

Well, hi again, friends! Are you feeling a little downhearted, reading some gorgeous blogs full of wonderful projects, and maybe you're thinking, "Mine don't work out like that!"

Allow me to let you in on a little secret - mine don't always, either!

So, since it's all rainy outside and I can't blog from my Chaise Lounge on my deck (doesn't that sound all fancy? LOL), pull up a chair and a cuppa, and tag along for my lastest FAIL!

Let's go back to my daughter's Steampunk-inspired bedroom that I've been working on. Remember the awesome Desk Do-Over? The cute Posh Pet Bed Steps? The Pinterest-Inspired Pet Bed? Even the recent Free DIY Frame Matting
trick for her beloved Johnny Depp poster? Oh, they turned out so well! I had my next project all ready to tackle - her window.

Doesn't that look great?!?! Yeah, well, don't get too excited. LOL Looks can be deceiving...

Free Matting for Your Picture/Poster Frames!

I love this little trick and I've used it many times, since we have movie and music posters of all sizes throughout our house, particularly in family room!

My daughter is currently going through her obligatory Johnny Depp phase (well, I mean, who hasn't?) and her brother got her a really cool poster for her birthday.

On my Goodwill run this weekend, I found an awesome gray metal Ikea poster frame for $3.00! Since we always have posters hanging around, just looking for frames, I grabbed it!

My Pinterest Inspiration for Making Over My Master Bedroom

I didn't intend to do a full makeover. Really, I just meant to throw a new coat of paint on the walls...

First of all, your sanctuary should be inviting! You should want to spend time there, rest there, read there, snuggle with the spouse there, bounce on the bed with the kids there! Mine has long since lost most of its inviting qualities. Plus, it's small. Small-ish. And dove gray. Which sounded charming in theory, but is actually B-O-R-I-N-G in real life.

Nano's Kitchen Remodel - THE REVEAL!

As you may know, for Mother's Day (and then some), I undertook remodeling my mother-in-law's kitchen while she was visiting her family back in Scotland. I knew this would be a big project. While I didn't have to replace appliances or do a major build, there was a lot of work to do, but I have to say - it came out awesome and very much reflective of my mother-in-law's bright and cheery personality!

Shop Your House!

Who doesn't want something new? Creating a space that you can use and enjoy always seems to sound like a "big project" and we immediately start budgeting, creating shopping lists, gathering awesome ideas from Pinterest, clipping pictures from magazines, etc. But what about when we don't have a budget for a new space? Have you thought about shopping a favorite store that is filled with things you already love?

How about shopping your house?
