Starting a BIG Project

First of all, let me introduce you to Nano, my wonderful Scottish mother-in-law. She is the youngest 81-year-old you would ever want to meet! Unlike many of her contemporaries, Nano LOVES to change things up. That's her, trying out an iPod. LOL And when Nano wants to change things up, you're likely to arrive for dinner and find a paintbrush next to your dinner fork! LOL

This is Nano. This is Nano on an iPod.
This is also Nano's dull kitchen

Google Friend Connect Ending! What to do??

As you may or may not know, Google is taking away that handy little Friend Connect widget you see on tons of your favorite blogs! I love it, too, and am sad to see it go. It's fun to see when you get a new follower and to see the smiling faces of the folks who enjoy your work!

Visions & Secrets & Wishes - OH MY!

Now, this may sound like it's going to be a lot of hoo-doo in this post, but I promise it's not! ;)

A couple years ago, there was a DVD making the rounds of my husband's office. It was The Secret and it was supposed about wishing for something out loud, which would, in turn, send that wish out to the universe, and would finally come true. That's pretty much it in a nutshell, at any rate. Anyway, the DVD finally found its way to my husband's desk and then to my DVD player. Now I like a good ghost story, conspiracy theory, etc, but I definitely prepared to view this "documentary" with a healthy dose of skepticism.

I have to say, while I still don't believe in wishes magically coming true, I got one thing out of this DVD and it's worked remarkably well - the idea of creating a Vision Board.

This is our Vision Board for 2012 - Got some empty spaces!

Desk Do-Over

As I've said in a previous post, my daughter has a tiny bedroom and a huge sense of style. She's in love with all things Steampunk right now. She had a small vanity I had refinished that (sort of) doubled as a desk, without having enough room for either job.

Now, if you know my daughter, her tastes are subject to change at any time. Right now, she loves her black furniture, but she likes the flat black, which doesn't always hold up to wear and tear. I'm hesitant to do heavy polyurethane finishes, because if she changes her mind, guess who's going to be doing the stripping - again? Yup - ME!

Then I found this gem at one of my local Goodwill stores!

Putting My Foot Down! :)

It never fails. You finally decide to get a project going and, suddenly, you are inundated with a thousand things that seem to appear out of nowhere and need to be done right now!

I'm squeezing in time today to get a post ready for the blog today, regardless. I work freelance and have several jobs suddenly due all at once. But this blog is important to me too. If it gets shoved to the side to make room for everything else, it can't grow and I don't create.

So my work will get done, but I have to remember to make this new venture important too.

How do you manage your time to make sure that your projects and interests aren't lost in the shuffle?

From Throwaway Plant Stand to Posh Pet Steps!

Hi there!

I'm going to start this blog off with a small job I did over the holidays. This is going to be a simple project, but an example of finding a way to fill a need in a hurry. And, believe me, this qualifies as a refurbishing project if anything ever has!

A little backstory: my daughter got a Teacup Yorkie as a early Christmas present. Her original owner needed to find a new home for her and my daughter had wanted for a pet of her own for a long time (as if the three dogs we had weren't enough!) So, this tiny little precious bundle of fur joined our family!

My First Blog Post

Wow, my first blog post! On my very own blog! Why, hello there, deep end!! Allow me to jump off! LOL

First of all, if you are reading this, let me tell you - that right there is making my day! I love blogs. LOVE them! I'm always amazed that the number of blogs I subscribe to hasn't broken Google Reader or something. There are so many talented DIY bloggers out there, why I thought I had anything to add is beyond me. But, nonetheless, I decided to jump into the blogosphere with some creativity of my own.
